Have you ever woken up one morning, and your whole world had turned right side-up? You heard me. I meant right side up. Not the one we're so used to, where by the time you wash your face, even before you brush you teeth, your world collapses... yet again. And you have to go through the by-now-familiar ritual of balancing a sense of betrayal against whatever is your source of faith... and your faith drops down, just a little bit more each time; yet you still hang in there, refusing to believe that this occasion is actually the bottom. And so you hang in there... and hang... and hang... till you're hanging by only one finger. The little finger.

And then it happens. You lose your grip, and as you're falling, falling, you feel something hard pressing against your tailbone, and you know you've hit rock bottom. And so you scream: "God!" "God! This is me. Remember? We've chatted before, and you responded, so I know you're there..." But then, when your butt hits, it hits something soft and bouncy, which tosses you back up in the air. And you find your balance.

And suddenly, you're standing tall again, like you're supposed to. Just as God created you to stand. And your backbone is not broken. The only thing you lost was the chip on your shoulder because you now realize that God was planning something better for you. All you needed was some exercise.

So you cry, not loud sobs that everyone can hear, but really heartfelt, and quiet, pouring from your eyes and leaving you weak in the knees, out of awe at what God can do, and the amazing skill with which he weaves the circumstances, however gloomy, to resolve themselves in your favor.

Has your world ever turned right-side up?
